Nigel was away on business during the worst of it. I was at home with the kids (all schools closed), keeping a close eye on events. Although our home was in no danger ( living in the 'boonies' has its advantages!), I wasn't sure how bad things might get. I have never seen the city in this type of state before....and it has been sad and concerning....but also a bit inspiring. We have an amazing mayor and an extremely hard working (organized!) public service sector who haven't rested much in several days, working to keep our city safe. I am very proud.
Two days after things started the water still hasn't receded very much, and there is a massive restoration in store. I think the impact of this flood will be felt for a long time (especially with our downtown core and major roadways being so affected). Thousands and thousands of people are displaced and will have a long road ahead of them. Prayers to all.
Downtown Calgary....under water. Power is likely not to be restored until mid week, next week.
The Calgary Zoo... under water.
My old high school.....under water.
