Nova Scotia

We kicked off our summer with a trip to Nova Scotia to visit family.

The trip started out a bit rough: Neela got very ill the evening before we left and wasn't able to keep down food/liquid for over 36 hours so we had to visit the ER in Truro the day after our arrival. She continued to suffer from a high fever for five straight days with waning energy and appetite. This made it hard to plan much as we never knew when she would crash.   Nigel and Ashton each picked up a cold and a cough (although nothing severe) and Ashton suffered an allergic reaction to a dog and broke out in nasty hives (until some Benadryl could be located and administered). But things improved.

Arriving to a warm welcome from Nigel's family

Our first venture out to Victoria Park in Truro

Cousins

Feverish Neela and her cousin Cassia.  BFFs

Dartmouth

Almost impossible to get a photo with the kids looking

At Grandma and Grandpa's house in Brookfield - mowing the massive lawn

Quiet time on the deck

We got lucky and the weather was HOT!  30 degrees for four straight days.  Time to break out the pool.  Too bad Neela wasn't feeling too great.

A favorite - the hammock!

Out at Malagash to visit friends.  A very busy day that started with a tractor ride.

Then into the jumper-water-park

Then out for a drive with an ocean view

I took a motorcycle ride along the coast with my brother-in-law

Next, off to the beach to look for shells and crabs

Finally, a stop at Jost Winery for some sampling!

The next day we went to the Halifax Harbor, but this was the only really rainy day so we stuck inside with a visit to the Maritime Museum

A quick visit with Theodore Tug Boat

And once the rain stopped a visit to the park

Cheese!

Since we traveled around by car a lot, there was a lot of this:

Second last day we went out to Parrsboro for lunch and a seaside visit. Tried to get a few family shots...

Tough to get all of the cousins gathered and looking.  I think this is the best one (with Aunty Alana's help)

And on the return back....yup, sleeping again.

The trip is almost over - but it was loads of fun.  What a great way to kick off the summer!
