The phone + a one year old = trouble

Just days after the newspapers run a story about a five year old who called 9-1-1 over 400 times from an old cellphone - my own family learns a valuable lesson about toddlers and phones.

You see Ashton *loves* to push buttons (literally and figuratively), so he regularly grabs the phone from our bedroom and tries to do something with it. We usually just scoop it away and think nothing of it. Which is what happened today, except about two minutes after I scooped the phone away it rang....and it was the police. They were following up to a 9-1-1 hang-up...from our home! At first I was confused...and then like lightening it hit me. Ashton!

Even more mortifying than admitting my one year old was responsible, was facing the officer at the front door who was dispatched the moment the call went through. A positive aside: the cops are quick to get to our house (we have lots of experience with them visiting us for unnecessary reasons). With my face burning in shame I profusely apologized to the visiting officer, and let him in to check out the home - 'just in case'. Oh gosh - the neighbors must really be wondering about us, as the cops were just here a few months ago for a false alarm.

Now, I do recall a blog post I made back in November or December of last year - when Ashton was only about three months old. The one where he made a daring attempt to escape his baby swing. A sign of things to come I said. I think today was another warning...to take extra care with him. I predict many more adventures ahead. Sigh.
